Think Twice Before Joining Gamma Tau Phi

\"Better than you since 2005\"

Check out the new t-shirt for Gamma Tau Phi (the IST Honors Society). The logo on the back which boldly states “Better than you since 2005″ oozes with pretentiousness.

Are you sure you want to be associated with these members? If this type of attitude continues, I’m forfeiting my membership this year for sure.

Check out the blog post on IT Milk for a lengthier rant on the IST Honors Society.

The new t-shirt created by IST Student Government is another one I look at and think that’s all they came up with?

The front has a picture of Professor Gerry Santoro wearing a russian-style hat, and the back of the shirt says:

You Know You’re an IST Student If:
    1. Your password expires every day.
    2. You eat, sleep, and breathe PBL.
    3. You know 210 isn’t just a bar.
    4. You know the College owns an island.
    5. You LIVE at the IST building.
    6. You’ve had class in the Cyber“tanic”.
    7. You do an entire semester project in three days.
    8. You can never find the link to TechTrak.
    9. You might as well just walk up all those steps
because there isn’t a slower elevator on Earth.
    10. You have the best friends in the world!!

Some of these are funny, but # 10??? Come on… Just plain corny.

  2. Agreed, that shirt doesn’t represent the organization or its members well. While I wasn’t overtly offended by it, I’d never consider buying or wearing one.

As for the IST SG shirt, we were begging for students to submit ideas for shirts. There were 3 submitted prior to that one, and none of them recieved a very high vote. That was the best idea submitted. If you don’t like it, please come up with a better idea for next year! We’d love to hear it!

I want it to be known that I did buy an IST shirt! When I wore it, some students questioned the list on the back — they didn’t understand many of the lines.

  5. I’m international this semester, so I claim ignorance on the t-shirt designs.

  6. I also purchased the shirt. I have yet to wear it to class, but I plan to soon. It is sad that some of the students do not understand the lines on the back. The reason why they do not understand is that they are obviously not involved enough in IST or know enough people in IST. We are a close community, and gossip usually flows fast through the the community. This also leads to the reason why #10 is on the list. Why? We are a close community. People will be able to understand this list better if they 1) get more involved in IST’s many clubs, and 2) get to know the people who are in their classes and out in the hall.

As for the Honors society shirt, it is a little tacky. Since I am not smart enough to be a member, it doesn’t matter to me. An idea like this came up for the IST SG shirt and we turned it down there.

  7. It is basically a toss up to what people want. It’s hard to have a close community agree on just one thing most of the time and be happy with the result, there is always something. Also sometimes, there is a lot of people who keep to themselves and just go with what the majority say, not really caring about the end result because they are not interested. I noticed that with the IST Floor this year, many stick to their own little groups, only a few are willing to speak their mind. I agree with Alex that IST students need to be more open, get involved with a club or two, and that it would help to be more social with students in your class.

Brendan, I can’t believe you are popping your head into the IST world from abroad! Looking forward to your return in the fall.

On the GTP shirt, they didn’t get enough orders and will not be purchasing the shirts as far as I’ve heard. I love the IST shirt design!

WIST shirts just came out Thursday. They are light purple with WIST and a computer on the front and “We’re the IT girls. Get it, Got it, Good.” on the back. I voted for this t-shirt, however would not have if I had known the logo was a computer (not very creative for women in IST) and the lines on the back would only be in plain arial font. The font could have at least been italicized for some style!

  11. @Caroline Furey: Hook me up with a WIST shirt.
