Clarification on IST Alumni Comment

Several IST students and alumni have taken offense to my previous comment regarding the IST Students vs. Alumni and Mentor Breakfast events. I would like to clarify my comment and apologize for all offense caused. I did not in any way mean to detract from the hard work and effort put into the events by the leaders of the IST Alumni Society and the students responsible for the IST vs. Alumni event. I commend these leaders in the IST community for the time they have volunteered and dedicated for the benefit of the College. I only meant to point out reasons of low Alumni attendance to these events.

Looking back at my post, I realize my writing did NOT emphasize enough the fact many Alumni were unable to attend Thursday and Friday due to their work schedule. A more appropriate question expressing why we shouldn’t be chastising Alumni is:

If IST students pull all-nighters to complete assignments and projects, one could assume Alumni are at least or more busy with their jobs during the workweek. Additionally, many Alumni have family and obligations to attend to at home that make absences difficult.

I look forward to next year’s Alumni events surrounding the Future Forum. Now that these events will be expected next year, more alumni will be able to plan their attendance in advance. I have no doubt the hardworking students and alumni will continue their success in the future. The relationship between current students and alumni is incredibly valuable.
