I just heard of this term called Haterade
It’s been about a week since the launch of IST Building. You know you are doing something right when you start receiving hate mail and cease and desist orders. Regardless, we are continuing to do our best to drive forward with our goal of providing an alternative media outlet for our College of IST.
You have to keep in mind that each of us have reputations on the line that may affect our fragile position with the administration and faculty as well as our future careers. So we would never intentionally post false information, and if any statements become falsified our policy is to post corrections as soon as possible. Some individuals may experience mild or severe discomfort when reading one of our articles. Please, I want to emphasize that, if you have concerns with any particular piece, talk to us about it and we will rectify the issue if necessary. Also, if you are affiliated with the College and you do not approve of the overall tone of this website, please share your thoughts with us, because we are fairly open-minded people and we are willing to tweak our direction if it makes sense.
When Caroline, Matt, and I conceived the idea for IST Building, we obviously expected to stir up controversy. That was kind of the point. To draw students in and get them involved in a productive conversation. I hope that you’ve noticed that we intentionally strive to produce attention-grabbing titles. We started as an independent publication in order to write from an objective perspective that becomes a difficult and even suicidal task when working as a college-affiliated organization like MIST.
Our hope is that IST Building, this website, will catch on with the IST community and continue to be around even after our co-founders graduate. But that is, of course, a naive thought and who knows what will happen even in the short-term? We may get blackmailed into shutting down the website or run into expensive legal troubles that will force us to discontinue. But until that one pitfall that kills us all, you can bet that we will pursue this project with our full commitment.

I was wondering if Penn State’s crack legal team was going to pounce on you guys (and gals). I am thinking that the IST building image and even its shape is protected. And even now when I say the IST Building, I am starting to associate that with your website… All I am saying… make sure this site is ready to switch over to another domain name when they take you to court. And that heavily modified header image might just not be heavily modified enough.
Don’t get me wrong, I love this crap. It makes life more interesting

@Mike: Nothing formal yet. And btw, as you can assume, I selected the name “IST Building” because it was the most generic name associated with IST that I could think of using. Penn State University is also not the only school with an “IST Building” either. I’ve received cease and desist orders by lawyers out to get my ass a couple times too often to make the same mistake again. But I’m sure there are always tricks and tips to weasel something into copyright infringement.

You could always just publicly post any legal threats you receive and mock them openly, a la The Pirate Bay.

@Brian Reitz: I enjoy this idea and openly volunteer to write mocking responses.
