College of IST Needs Some Search Engine Reputation Management
When you do a Google search for “college of ist,” the 5th and 6th results are from a personal blog titled “Daily Asshattery in the College of IST.” Contrary to expectations, there actually isn’t much content within this blog that ridicules the College, but the title of the site needless to say shines a negative light when it comes up right underneath the official College of IST website.
I’m impressed that this minor personal blog has been able to climb the ranks to get on the first page of search results for the keyword “college of ist.” My guess would be that this is the outcome of a combination of the freshness factor of the author’s recent blog post on the subject of IST, the backlinks coming from several dozen forum postings, and being hosted on the wordpress.com domain. Our site needs to start working on search engine optimization as well. We used to be on the first page of results for “ist building” but it has since dropped to the fifth page.
