IST Entrepreneurship Photo Shoot

Several Penn Staters involved in entrepreneurship met this afternoon for a magazine photo shoot. Paul Horn (Class of ‘04), the Fuzr guys–Matt Slocum (Senior, IST), Eric Kirse (Senior, IST), Jordan Shelley (Senior, Comp Sci)–and I were present. I asked Charlie DuBois to snap a quick photo on the side with my own camera as the professional photographer was getting prepared.

Paul Horn is currently working in sales at Sun Microsystems. He operated a web design and IT consulting business during his undergraduate studies.

Fuzr, a web application developed by Matt Slocum, Eric Kirse, and Jordan Shelley, resembles the newly launched Friendfeed application. Using Fuser, you can aggregate all your news feeds from the web and share it with others.

The photo shoot was for an upcoming feature article about entrepreneurship in the College of IST. Charlie DuBois, Communications Manager for the College, interviewed me a few weeks ago about the story behind Meezik. Meezik develops social widgets for Facebook and Myspace, and we just completed a finalist round at the GVTA Business Plan Competition for $60k in startup funding. The winning team will be announced next Thursday.

I’m anxious to read about the other student entrepreneurs when the issue is published later this summer, because I’m sure there is a lot of behind-the-scenes action going on that I haven’t heard of.

Correction: I misspelled Fuzr as Fuser, which is an entirely different application. Sorry guys!

There’s two new IST classes about entrepreneurship that look pretty cool. Unfortunately, I can’t take them myself so I’d be interested from other students enrolled how they turn out.

Check out IST 425 New Venture Creation and IST 426 Invention Commercialization.
