Local Web 2.0 “Conference” held at Indian Pavilion

The Social Media Meets E-Ship, which was originally advertised as a BBQ, took place at the Indian Pavilion in downtown State College this evening. Our staff meteorologist, Daehee Park, had predicted a thunderstorm earlier this week and moved the BBQ indoors (it was actually quite nice outside throughout our entire dinner). Although the event was moved inside, the food was absolutely delicious, and the company was even better. 19 people attended representing IST, the Engineering Entrepreneurship minor (E-SHIP), Blue Lion, and the Lion Launch Pad. The director of the E-SHIP minor, Liz Kisenwether, was also present and gave the IST students a brief overview of the minor’s program. All attendees had the opportunity to network, talk about entrepreneurship, and discuss business ideas.

With the success of Social Media Meets E-Ship, we plan on organizing similar events next fall. This is a great way for IST students to meet other students in Smeal or the College of Engineering. If you have any desire to meet highly-motivated individuals interested in entrepreneurship, please send your contact information to daehee@istbuilding.com. We will keep you updated on any upcoming entrepreneurship events.

  1. It’s because Daehee wasn’t using Drizzoo!

For real — cool event, glad to have been a part of it.

Now back to the Arctic circle for me!

  2. Daehee Park

    “Our staff meteorologist,” lol.

Even though the location was moved, the event turned out to be even better because more people could show up since the Pavilion was within walking distance.

David - we definitely need to plan more like this. I know several people who could not show up because this one was too short of notice.

  3. @Daehee Park: People like me! I had class until 5:30 and unfortunately I was presenting so I couldn’t just skip out…

A couple people representing the new PSU Network of Entrepreneurs were also present, including the president, Alec Bittner.

It was a great event with awesome people and excellent food! I’m looking forward to more events

  6. I think it’s important not to become yet another club — it exists higher than a club, because it is a community for all with a shared interest, and therefore includes members from various clubs, social groups, and even non-students, such as Mark Henderson who was there last night. our next goal should be bringing in tech entrepreneurs from the area like Scott Woods and the ruby group.

@David Adewumi: I agree with David about keeping it simple and not becoming an official organization. Great idea about brining in some successful local entrepreneurs.
