China Shuts Down Entertainment Websites for Three Days of Mourning
Reports surfaced via Twitter that China has ordered “recreational” websites and services to be taken offline for three days of mourning the quake victims. It doesn’t even stop there. Every Chinese channel will be running 24/7 Quake coverage, as well. Marc Chijs (co-founder Todou and CEO of China Spill Group), Frank Yu, Andrew Lih, and Robert Scoble have more inside information about this breaking story. While it is important to respect and mourn the lives lost in this natural disaster, shutting the down part of the internet is an odd reaction by the Chinese government. This event has also proven to be an example of how the close-knit Twitter community spreads the news quickly. CNN, WSJ, MSNBC, Fox News and other major news sources don’t have any coverage of this situation, yet.
