Hello everyone!

I hope you are all having great summers. The IST Honor Society’s officers have been hard at work all summer putting together a couple of cool initiatives. We hope to have our constitution revamped so keep an eye out for our first general meeting so that you can vote on this new constitution! Also - we are planning to continue our research series (maybe pulling in a few companies and speakers from other Colleges), hold a kickoff BBQ (should be fun…), and several other fun things.

Right now, we are in the phases of finalizing the Tutoring Program that we are setting up for the College. Our website is up and running at http://www.clubs.psu.edu/up/gtp/tutor/ and we are finalizing plans for training/promotion. As such, I would like to reach out to you to consider becoming a tutor. It would not require more than an hour or two of commitment per week, and it would be an excellent resume builder. It will also give a lot back to the IST community. We don’t have many tutors right now, so we would appreciate some of your support. Being a tutor will also cover your attendance requirements for the year that will be outlined in the revamped constitution. ALSO - I can’t make any promises towards compensation, but I assure you that we are working on it. Our treasurer, Dan Fey, is trying to get sponsorship from outside corporations of the College of IST’s Dean Foley so that we can eventually pay tutors $8 / hr. I do not believe this will be in place for the start of the semester, but we will be logging all tutoring hours; so you would be compensated for any time that you put in once we do get the funding. I am confident that we will eventually get it. Payment will include training; but again, I can’t make any promises at this time.
