Claim your spot on the PSU Team for Google Online Marketing Challenge 2009

Penn State University had a remarkably successful performance in the first ever Google Online Marketing Challenge this year. In addition to Team Big Click winning 1st place in the Americas Region, Team Intangibles and Team D marked their territories as semi-finalists!

Plans for the Challenge 2009 are already in the works, and this time due to an overwhelming demand the IST 402 course for participating in the Challenge will have a cap of just 40 students. Once again being led by Dr. Jim Jansen, one of the leading researchers in the search engine field, this course should be even better than last year with an improved curriculum, a broader selection of client businesses and of course some enriching experience under our belts.

Dr. Jansen is seeking candidates from the College of IST, Smeal College of Business and the College of Communications to form well-rounded teams that will ensure a holistic experience with online marketing.

The following is the official course description:

IST 402 - Google Online Marketing Challenge
Indispensable for locating information, Web search engines also facilitate e-commerce transactions, with many organizations using search engines for online marketing, branding, and advertising. This course examines the online marketing environment via a real world competition using the Google AdWords platform. Students will participate in the Google Online Marketing Challenge. Students will gain practical, real world online marketing experience while getting all the excitement of competing with teams of other students from all over the world.

Early registration starts on September 11th. If you want to be a part of the Google experience, email Dr. Jansen at jjansen@ist.psu.edu expressing your interest.
